The heart of the CRS317-1G-16S+RM is the 98DX8216 switching chip — also serving as the dual-core 800 MHz ARM 32-bit CPU — paired with 1 GB of RAM. The switching fabric delivers non-blocking Layer 2 throughput across all ports simultaneously, with measured performance of up to 158,906 Mbps at 1518-byte packets and 122,667 Mbps at 64-byte packets for Layer 2 throughput, and a full non-blocking Layer 1 capacity of 161,000 Mbps (322,000 Mbps bidirectional). Ports & Connectivity

The CRS317-1G-16S+RM provides sixteen SFP+ cages supporting 10GbE fibre, DAC, or compatible SFP+ modules, plus one 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet port for out-of-band management or general connectivity. An RJ45 serial console port is also provided for direct out-of-band management access, independent of the network.

Dual Operating System — RouterOS & SwitchOS

RouterOS provides the full MikroTik Layer 3 routing, firewall, QoS, VLAN, MPLS, and VPN feature set — all managed via WinBox, WebFig, or CLI. Both operating systems are pre-installed and licensed — no additional software purchase is required.

The unit accepts AC input in the 100–240 V range at 50–60 Hz via two redundant PSU slots, providing power supply redundancy for high-availability deployments. Maximum power consumption is 44 W. Cooling is handled by two fans. On-board CPU temperature monitoring and a beeper provide health alerting.
