MikroTik KNOT LR8G Kit LoRa 915MHz LTE IoT Gateway
The MikroTik KNOT LR8G kit (RB924iR-2nD-BT5&BG770A&R11e-LR8G) is a compact, industrial-grade IoT gateway designed to bridge LoRa®-based sensor networks with cloud and enterprise infrastructure. Combining a 915 MHz LoRa® radio, LTE CAT-M1 and NB2 cellular connectivity, concurrent GPS, Bluetooth 5.2, 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, RS485/Modbus, GPIO, and two 100 Mbps Ethernet ports with PoE-in and PoE-out — all in a passively cooled enclosure with DIN rail and wall mount support — the KNOT LR8G is purpose-built for smart asset tracking, cold chain monitoring, agricultural sensing, and industrial automation deployments. Running RouterOS v7, it offers full scripting and automation capabilities for any IoT scenario.

The MikroTik KNOT LR8G kit is a versatile, out-of-the-box IoT gateway engineered for organisations that need affordable, reliable connectivity in infrastructure-light or remote environments. It consolidates a broad range of wireless and wired interfaces into a single compact unit (122 × 87 × 26 mm), making it an exceptionally flexible centrepiece for wide-area and local IoT deployments alike.
LoRa® 915 MHz — Long-Range Low-Power Sensor Connectivity
The KNOT LR8G features an enhanced 915 MHz LoRa® radio with improved receive sensitivity, enabling longer range and stronger signal reception even in interference-heavy environments. This makes it an ideal LoRa gateway for aggregating data from a large number of low-power, battery-operated sensors spread across warehouses, campuses, farms, industrial sites, or urban areas — all without the need for a traditional wired network at each sensor location.
LTE CAT-M1 & NB2 — Cellular Backhaul
The included BG770A modem module provides LTE CAT-M1 and NB2 (Narrowband IoT) cellular connectivity via a Nano SIM slot, enabling the gateway to backhaul sensor data to the cloud or a centralised server over mobile networks — even in locations with no fixed-line internet infrastructure. This eliminates the need for Ethernet or fibre at remote deployment sites, significantly reducing installation costs for large-scale rollouts. Importantly, the LTE CAT-M1 connection can operate simultaneously with GPS tracking, making the KNOT LR8G ideal for mobile or roaming asset monitoring.
Concurrent GPS Tracking
The built-in GNSS/GPS receiver, accessible via an SMA female connector, enables precise real-time location tracking of the gateway itself or mobile assets in its vicinity. When combined with the live LTE CAT-M1 backhaul, this supports continuous location updates for fleet management, logistics tracking, and mobile IoT deployments.
Bluetooth 5.2 — Short-Range Asset Detection
Bluetooth 5.2 support (with uUFL connector) allows the KNOT LR8G to communicate with Bluetooth beacons and sensors at close range. This is particularly useful in environments like hospitals, where Bluetooth beacons can be attached to medical equipment, trolleys, or personnel, and the KNOT gateway reports their proximity in real time.
2.4 GHz Wi-Fi & Ethernet
The integrated 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 4 radio (802.11b/g/n, up to 300 Mbit/s) and two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports provide additional local connectivity options. Ether1 supports 802.3af/at PoE-in (18–57V) for powering the device over existing network cabling, while Ether2 provides Passive PoE-out to power a connected downstream device — useful for powering a small camera, sensor hub, or secondary networking device from the same cabling run.
RS485/Modbus & GPIO — Wired Sensor Integration
An RS485 serial port enables direct integration with Modbus-compatible wired sensors and industrial devices — such as temperature probes, humidity monitors, flow meters, and PLCs. This makes the KNOT LR8G equally capable in industrial and building automation environments where legacy wired sensors are already in place. GPIO support further extends the gateway's ability to interface with custom hardware, switches, alarms, and actuators.
Flexible Powering
The KNOT LR8G supports three independent power inputs: a DC jack (12–57V), 802.3af/at PoE-in (18–57V), and a MicroUSB port (5V) — enabling deployment from standard PoE switches, DC power supplies, or even USB power banks in the field. Maximum power consumption under full load is just 23W (6W without attachments), making it highly energy-efficient for always-on deployments.
Mounting & Form Factor
The compact enclosure includes both wall mount (K-47) and DIN rail mount hardware in the box, making it straightforward to install in electrical cabinets, on walls, or in standard industrial enclosures. Passive cooling ensures completely silent, maintenance-free operation across a tested ambient temperature range of -40°C to 70°C.
RouterOS v7 — Programmable & Fully Featured
The KNOT LR8G runs RouterOS v7, pre-installed and licensed at no extra cost, providing full access to MikroTik's advanced scripting, routing, firewall, VPN, and IoT package features. Custom automation scripts can be written to process GPS data, trigger alerts based on sensor thresholds, manage cellular failover, and much more — all without needing external servers or middleware.
